Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have twenty-five creative students in my fifth-grade class. They are faced with many challenges, but they are so excited to learn and expand their thinking.
Our students come from a low-income community, with 100% of them receiving free/reduced lunch and breakfast at our site.
Students depend on our school for daily meals and caring relationships. Our community has a language barrier and the majority of our students are English learners. We also have a large community of migrant workers, where families are forced to move according to where jobs are available.
Students are now faced with a new set of challenges with the Covid-19 Pandemic. I can say that though my students are faced with these problems, they are so willing to learn. They are so motivated and excited about new projects.
My Project
This embroidery package will allow me to teach my fifth graders how to embroider! Students have been learning online with a screen time of hours every day! They will be so excited to learn the lifelong skill of embroidery while having fun, relaxing, and enhancing their fine motor skills.
This embroidery project will give my students a chance to unplug and be in the moment.
Each student will have their own supplies to work with. This way they can take projects to and from school to work on them. I know that these supplies will allow my students, who would not likely be able to afford these supplies on their own, a chance to express their creativity and boost their confidence!
More than half of students from low‑income households
