This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I’m a first year teacher and am so fortunate to have my students to help me along the way. The first week of school, I asked my students what “the best thing about them” was and most of my class said they are helpful. They were spot on! They are the most helpful and curious bunch!

My Project

I want to begin building at-home libraries with real books for my students because everyone needs access to their favorite books at their leisure! Every day, our homework assignments include reading for 30 minutes and many of my students read on their Chromebook. This provides excellent scaffolds for them, but I want to get classic and tangible books to support their literacy at home.

As an educator and learner, I understand the importance of falling in love with reading to a student's learning journey.

I want my kids to hone their literacy skills, but more importantly- I want them to choose to read. Some of my favorite childhood books heavily influenced who I became and opened doors to finding more books into my life that I needed.

My students know that knowledge is power, and in order to have autonomy and accessibility to navigate life- they NEED strong literacy skills.

Please help my classroom master these common core standards and grow into the scholars they are becoming:

Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
