My Project
I wanted to give the students a simple opportunity to help feed the community using just one hour on one day. I am shooting for Saturday, March 30, from 11 a.m. to Noon.
Students will learn how just doing a little can help many other people in the community.
My math classes will learn how much it takes to feed the community with so many volunteers in one hour on one day. At the same time learning about service, empathy and connection to the people around them.
I wanted the project to be sustainable where the students learn how to provide service without throwing away items and by using sustainable products. We will wear food service safety gloves that can be re-used. We will use paper bags and paper food wrapping to package the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The strawberry jars can be recycled as future seedling planters. The boxed water is the best alternative to buying plastic bottle water. And even the napkins are from recycled material. The spreaders can be washed and reused. No plastic will be thrown away.
