When I submitted my project on DonorsChoose, I hoped for support. What I received was so much more: a genuine investment in young people and in the power of reading to change the way we see ourselves and the world around us. Because of your kindness and generosity, that vision became a reality in ways I am still watching unfold every single day.\r\n\r\nThe books you funded have found a home in two of my classes — Sociology and Psychology — and the difference they have made is visible, tangible, and deeply meaningful. \r\n\r\nIn Sociology, Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi has been a revelation. Students who once struggled to connect with abstract concepts like social norms, power structures, and cultural identity now have a vivid, human story to anchor those ideas. Nafisi's courageous memoir — of women gathering in secret to read forbidden literature — has sparked some of the most honest, searching conversations this classroom has ever seen. Students are not just learning sociology; they are feeling it.\r\n\r\nIn Psychology, Turtles All the Way Down by John Green has been equally \r\ntransformative. Green's unflinching portrayal of a teenager living with OCD and anxiety gave my students a mirror — or a window — into the experience of mental health in a way no textbook ever could. I have watched students who rarely spoke up begin to open up about their own inner lives, because Aza's story gave them the language and the permission to do so. That is the gift of the right book at the right time.\r\n\r\nWhat moves me most is knowing that this is not a one-time gift. These books will remain on our classroom shelves for years to come. Next year's students will pick them up. The year after that, more students still. Each class that passes through this room will carry a piece of what you made possible — a commitment to literacy, to empathy, and to understanding the human experience more deeply.\r\n\r\nYou may never meet the students whose lives you touched, but I want you to know: they are real, they are bright, and they are better equipped to navigate the world because you believed in them before you ever knew their names.\r\nThank you for being part of our classroom family. Thank you for investing in literacy, in learning, and in the future. Your generosity is woven into the fabric of everything we do here — and it will continue to be for a long time to come.","fullyFundedDate":1772504980731,"projectUrl":"project/promoting-reading-culture-in-psychology/10103904/","projectTitle":"Promoting Reading Culture in Psychology and Sociology Through Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hamilton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/830765"},{"teacherId":8820871,"projectId":10104503,"letterContent":"It is with my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your kindness and willingness to give toward \"Essential Classroom Supplies.\" With the awesome supplies, I was able to provide my students with all the necessary materials to create projects in class. They were very excited and thankful! All these supplies make such a difference.\r\n\r\nYour donations allowed my high school students to participate in engaging, hands-on learning activities throughout the year. Students used Sharpie highlighters to annotate readings and identify key concepts during class discussions. Expo pens were used daily during collaborative group work and problem-solving activities on whiteboards. Post-it tabs helped students organize research articles, mark important information, and prepare presentations. Index cards were used for vocabulary review, brainstorming ideas, study games, and reflection activities. Scissors and chart paper helped students create visual displays, timelines, posters, and presentations during gallery walks and group projects.\r\n\r\nThese materials encouraged teamwork, creativity, communication, and active participation in the classroom. During gallery walks, students proudly shared their work, gave feedback to classmates, and learned from one another in an interactive environment. The supplies you provided helped create meaningful learning experiences that kept students engaged and excited to participate.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and generous donations. This has helped me quickly identify which students may be struggling or falling behind so I can support them right away. Because of your generosity, my students are receiving more timely guidance and are becoming more confident in their learning.\r\n\r\nMy students are especially excited when they can clearly see math modeled step-by-step in a more interactive way. I have especially noticed growth in students who are usually quiet or hesitant to ask for help because I can now check in with them individually while monitoring their progress live. The parents of my students are extremely grateful that someone is looking beyond their teen's disability to see opportunity. When their children were much younger, some of my parents revealed that they did not feel that the option of working in a bakery would ever be an option for their child, nor a life that where their children would even be physically and intellectually capable of holding down a job. While technology often makes life easier at home, in our school, it is making learning much more hands-on and meaningful. These supplies have turned our room into a space where students can finally see their ideas come to life.\r\n\r\nBy using 3D printer filament alongside simple items like popsicle sticks and glue, my students are learning how to bridge the gap between a digital design and a physical product. They now have the chance to test their math and science theories in the real world. If a 3D-printed part doesn't fit or a prototype collapses, they don't see it as a mistake; they see it as a challenge to go back to their design and improve it. This process teaches them the persistence and critical thinking skills they will need in their future careers.\r\n\r\nThe students are most energized by the fact that they are the ones in control. They aren't just watching a demonstration; they are the creators. There is a special kind of pride that happens when a student watches the printer transform a file they built on a screen into something they can hold in their hands. This technology gives them the freedom to take risks and experiment with different shapes and structures, which keeps their curiosity high and makes every lesson feel like an adventure.\r\n\r\nYour donation is reaching students in ways a traditional textbook cannot. I have seen several students who usually stay in the background suddenly step up as leaders. One student in particular, who often felt frustrated by standard writing assignments, has become our top expert at troubleshooting the 3D printer. This shift in confidence is amazing to witness. Because of your help, these students are seeing themselves as capable innovators and problem solvers for the first time. This extra screen space makes a big difference in how students work. They are able to keep research or instructions open on one screen while completing assignments on the other, which helps improve focus and efficiency. It also supports collaboration, as students can more easily share their screens with partners or small groups when working together. Overall, it creates a smoother workflow and helps students stay organized during lessons.\r\n\r\nThe Bose Bluetooth speaker has also been a great addition. It ensures that audio from videos, presentations, and discussions is clear and consistent throughout the room, no matter where students are seated. This is especially important during multimedia lessons, where sound quality can impact understanding. Clear audio helps students stay engaged, follow directions more easily, and participate in discussions with confidence. It has also made activities like listening exercises, video analysis, and even classroom celebrations more enjoyable and inclusive for everyone.\r\n\r\nFlash drives have provided a simple and reliable way for students to save and transfer their work. They give students flexibility and help them stay organized, especially when working on projects across different devices.\r\n\r\nOverall, these tools have helped create a more engaging, accessible, and efficient learning environment. Students are more involved, better able to follow along, and more confident in completing their work.\r\n\r\nThank you for your continued support in helping us provide meaningful learning experiences for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1771559528397,"projectUrl":"project/technology-tools-for-the-classroom/10105226/","projectTitle":"Technology Tools for the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Higa","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9805550"},{"teacherId":8832478,"projectId":10105019,"letterContent":"Thank you sincerely for your generous support of our Classroom Veggie Factory project. The 3D printer filament and prototyping supplies have arrived, and our classroom has officially transformed into a bustling design lab. While many people use technology for convenience, your donation is helping my students use it for discovery.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, these tools bridge the gap between textbook theory and real-world reality. A math problem on a page is just a number, but a 3D-printed boat that sinks because of a calculation error is a lesson they never forget. The filament allows them to turn digital designs into physical objects. By pairing this with popsicle sticks and glue, students learn to test ideas quickly and cheaply before committing to a final print. They are not just learning to use a printer; they are learning to analyze, pivot, and problem-solve.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is the creative agency. They are not just following instructions; they are the lead designers. There is a visible excitement every time the printer materializes a file they spent hours perfecting. They love the freedom to try bold designs, knowing that a mistake is not a failure, but just another prototype. It has turned our room into a space where curiosity is more important than being right on the first try.\r\n\r\nThis technology has been a game-changer for students who typically struggle with traditional lectures. I have watched quiet or hesitant students transform into classroom experts. One student who previously struggled with focus is now the first one in the room, meticulously calibrating the printer and helping peers troubleshoot their designs. Seeing that shift from feeling behind to becoming a leader is exactly why your support matters. It was really sweet to see them get excited and to be able to show them the new materials for the classroom.\r\n\r\nSeveral of the resources were put to use right away. For instance, the large post-it notes were a great tool for group discussion activities. Students were able to collaborate with a peer on an essay outline and the large format supported both students to work on the outline at the same time. They were then able to stick their outlines up onto the walls of the room and participate in a gallery walk in order to learn from and provide feedback on other students' outlines. Similarly, I was able to stock up the Self-Service and Self-Care Station in my classroom with the fruit gummy snacks and crackers, the pencils and other school supplies, and the tissues. The Rubik's Cubes and games were placed on the back shelf and many of my students enjoy taking them out during free time and when they come in for Advisory or during lunch! A few months ago for Thanksgiving, I was also able to support students' practice of gratitude with having them write Thank You Cards for someone they want to give thanks to in their life. The portable pedestal also came in handy during Finals Presentations in which students presented their analyses of Hamlet at the front of the class and perform a soliloquy from the play. The portability of it supported range of movement and creativity in their presentations.\r\n\r\nOverall, these resources have supported my ability as a teacher to create a space for learning and community that is accessible and welcoming. They have also supported my students' ability to access the learning environment and engage in activities that are creative, hands-on, and meaningful.
