My students need daily snacks, crackers, fruit snacks and granola bars to ensure they are able to stay focused on their education in order to be successful in the classroom.
I teach at an NAESP-member school that is a low-income/high-poverty school, my students face many challenges both in the classroom and at home. Despite these many challenges, my goal is to keep things simple and provide my students with a loving and meaningful learning environment. They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention.
Many of my student are raised in single-parent households or by other family members.
Some are even homeless as of right now. It is heartbreaking to know that some of my students will leave my classroom and not have a meal to eat that night. Most of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These situations make it difficult to get ahead early in life and may hinder them with "typical" life experiences many of us see on a daily basis. From the minute they walk in my classroom, I focus on their individual potential and growth. I may not have any control over their home lives; however, I am able control the fact that their experience during the school day will be positive and caring. They leave my classroom knowing it is a safe and loving place,
My Project
It is heartbreaking to know that some of my students will leave my classroom and not have a meal to eat that night. Sometime free breakfast and lunch is the only meals some of my students get. Being able to provide them with a daily snack helps keep their bodies and minds going. I believe that if they do not have to worry about food throughout the day then they will be able to keep their focus on their education. The snacks that will be provided to my student with this project will ensure they have one less thing to worry about.
