Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students at my school are taught in both English and Spanish. More than half of our students come from Spanish-speaking homes.
Identifying with characters can lead to deeper comprehension and engagement with a text.
When students see themselves reflected in books, it validates their identities and builds self esteem. It also strengthens their connection to literature and learning.
We plan on uniting our school and community by all reading "Stella Diaz Has Something to Say" and doing the activities that come with the One School, One Book program.
We are so excited to include all grades K-5. Every student will receive a book in their preferred language. The English version has several Spanish words in it, because the main character is bilingual, like many of our students. Younger students will be read aloud to, and older students will read independently. Students will be able to hold their books and take them home to share with their families. Please help us give our students these amazing books!
