This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from difficult circumstances. They often don't have much, if any support at home. They struggle with lots of personal and family issues. School is their stable, safe place to be. One of their struggles is they are always hungry. Our classes are 65 minutes and lunch is a long time away for them. Then, when they go home they may not have much to eat before coming back in the morning.
"Trauma informed training" teaches us that our struggling students need food and hydration every 2 hours.
We have provided some snacks for them and have seen some improvement in their focus, and I want to supplement that. My focus is on my 3rd period, which is halfway between breakfast and lunch, but students in all my classes will be able to access snacks to help them get through the day.
