Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a proud Title I school, where 100% of students receive free lunch and free breakfast. My students live in one of the most dangerous parts of their urban city of Oakland, California, but overcome all obstacles.

Many gangs surround our community and my students all live in poverty yet do not let their disadvantages take hold of them in the classroom.

Each day, these children come to school ready to learn, putting their education first.

My students enjoy much-needed community circles and restorative justice circles where they can learn to have a voice and become leaders. I am so proud of who my students are.

My Project

All my students come to school hungry and do not bring food from home. Earlier in the school year, I found myself buying a mini-fridge so I could keep perishable items from spoiling. All children thrive better academically when they are well-nourished. I am a first-year teacher and all my students live in poverty and need all the help they can to help them succeed despite the many barriers surrounding them in their city.

Your donation will make a huge difference in our class.

I will be able to feed all my students healthy snacks each day. Learning will thrive when these children have the energy and stamina to sit in their seats so they are not asking consistently when they will have lunch next. Currently, my students are very hungry. I see their drive in education and energy dip when they are not well fed. I also see these children thrive when they are allowed access to food that I have been providing in the classroom.

I am a first-year teacher and a mom. I cannot afford to feed all 22 of my students daily on my own. I believe full-heartedly with your help we can do this together!
