My Project
I teach 24 bright and beautiful second-graders in a high-needs area of New York. My students and I have been working intensively to get to grade-level proficiency in reading. We set realistic reading goals and are working to make at least one year's growth. They have a goal-setting mindset.

I am amazed at how excited my scholars are when we learn about new authors or when I have new books to add to our library.

My students need a collection of high-interest books such as chapter books, scaredy squirrel, and fun novelty books to keep my students engaged in reading all day long. Unfortunately, my classroom library does not meet the needs of my very excited bookworms. I can often be found at the public library three or four nights a week, checking out extra books for my students. I am asking for high-interest books to add to our collection.
At my elementary school, my students are reading for at least twenty minutes per day. During that time, they have a chance to read their favorite books independently. The chance to read their favorite books with their favorite characters would be an amazing experience. I want to encourage them to build their reading stamina and stay focused on their books.
