This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"A full stomach makes a happy heart" - Spanish Proverb.
Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoon my 12 third grade students rush into my classroom starving for food and knowledge. I take care of their hunger for food, and then their hunger to learn!
I teach Reading and Math to 12 ELL third grade students after school.
I teach at a Title I school, where 98% of the students are on free or reduced lunch, and fall within the poverty guidelines. These students come from homes where most of their parents do not speak English. Because of these disadvantages, many of my students are low performing students.
My Project
The life essentials that I have requested will help my students receive snacks, so that hunger is not another distraction that will keep them from learning. Most of my students eat the free breakfast and lunch that is provided by the school. Most parents do not have the funds to purchase or provide snacks for their children. My students have lunch at 10:35 a.m., so by 3:05 p.m., they are starving! These life essential resources will help fuel my students bellies, so that their basic needs are met. Once that need is met, my students will be able to feed their hunger for learning without being distracted by their bellies grumbling.
The donations to this project will improve my classroom by helping my students meet their basic needs by providing them with life essentials.
It will change my students' lives for the better by helping them fill their bellies with snacks, so that they can concentrate on learning without being distracted by hunger.
