it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Having snacks for students may seem like a luxury, but really it is an absolute necessity. In my experience, a hungry student is a distracted and often uncomfortable student. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a pyramid of human needs that range from physiological needs, being the most basic and necessary, to self actualization needs that are truly where student learning and discourse can take place. Food is one of those physiological needs that shapes and holds up the pyramid. In order to be able to reach these higher needs like personal growth and peak performance, students need food in their bodies. Last year I was often known as the snack person on my floor and I ending up spending an exorbitant amount of money on food for my students because many of them come to school to be fed. I work in a Title I school which means I tend to have lower-income students. With this project I hope to be able to have enough snacks to feed my students for this school year.
Lack of food can lead not only to lack of learning but also to the irritably that causes many middle school fights.
Middle school is a time rife with emotions, conflicts and growth. Middle schoolers are constantly growing and I can tell you eating as well. These students should not have to worry about a pain and grumble in their stomachs. They should be focused on learning and engaging in higher-order discussions.
