This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At PCTA, a Title I school in the Providence Public School District, we see a reality every day that’s hard to ignore. Perfectly good food is thrown away, some of our students are quietly going without.

We’re working to change that.

The PCTA Food Rescue Program is a student-led effort to turn surplus cafeteria meals into a reliable, judgment-free resource for those who need it most. With a dedicated community fridge, students will be able to access fresh, safely prepared food in a way that protects their privacy and dignity. At the same time, our hospitality interns will gain hands-on experience in food safety, sustainability, and service honing in on skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

This will be the first program of its kind in the Providence Public School District, and we’re proud to lead the way in building something that directly supports our school community.

We’re asking for your help to get it off the ground. Donations will go toward purchasing a commercial-grade refrigerator, food-safe storage containers, and labeling supplies to ensure everything is organized, safe, and accessible.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us take one step closer to a school where no student has to worry about their next meal, and where good food is never wasted.
