Fear Not: Making The Scarlet Letter Relevant For Modern Times
My students need 30 copies of No Fear: The Scarlet Letter to aid in their understanding and appreciation of 19th century American Romantic Literature.
This project expired on June 30, 2016.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My classroom is challenging and rewarding. I have the privilege of teaching three classes of 11th Graders daily. My students are challenged because I have high expectations for every single one of them. It is rewarding because I know that everyday they leave with knowledge they didn't come in with.
My school is a wonderful example of what education should be.
We offer our students small class sizes, which allows them both to maintain rigor and go beyond expectations for themselves.
I truly believe that at my school we are preparing students to be successful in college or the workplace. Our students in one word are motivated, which I feel is the greatest asset of a learner. Motivation in a student always equals growth and I am proud to be a part of what we are doing here!
Reading The Scarlet Letter can always prove to be a challenge for most students. The language of the 19th century can be difficult to understand, even for the most competent of readers. I want to use No Fear: The Scarlet Letter to present this timeless classic to my students in a way that leaves them unhindered by 19th century vocabulary and simply allows them to enjoy the work in all it's glory.
I feel that this project is going to help students connect more deeply with the novel than I have seen in the past.
So many of my students love the story in the novel, but really struggle to comprehend it on their own without a lot of guidance from me. They are eager to understand and always ask so many questions about what they are reading, but sadly get frustrated with the language. I want students to really enjoy the story and make connections with it and the modern world they live in.
