This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The classroom is a community in which students can learn, grow, and develop themselves as individuals. A community in which they can share ideas and perspectives. It is necessary that classrooms foster positive energy and growth within students.
No child wants to feel unwelcome in their classroom.
Therefore, as a first year teacher, it is my goal to create a safe and welcoming environment for all my learners, regardless of ability. My students come from low income homes and are diverse in ability, ethnicity, and culture. I want them to be motivated to learn and to feel welcomed into the classroom.
To support the diversity in my classroom, I want to provide my students with sensory and manipulative toys that can help support their learning. I also want to build a diverse classroom library in which my students can see themselves. A library built on fostering community and positive rapport among the students.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I want to make sure that I provide my students with the necessary materials needed so that they feel comfortable, safe and welcome in the classroom. During my student teaching experience, I noticed the importance of creating a warm classroom community and the overall positive effect it has on student growth, happiness and success.
Diverse literature about acceptance, kindness, and diversity will help foster a positive climate within the classroom.
I choose these texts based off the literature that my students enjoyed and loved during classroom read alouds. These texts resonated with my students, during my student teaching experience, and therefore I want to bring them into my own classroom.
