Fashion Forward in a Small Town

My students need fashion forward markers and sketch materials to begin their fashion journeys. The DVDs also help fill in gaps in areas of the industry that I cannot expose them to otherwise.

My Students

When I first told students I would be offering Fashion Design as a class, most of them looked at me as if I were crazy. Students today do not have a lot of exposure or experience in clothing construction or fashion design at all. Our school has about 300 students, more than half in households of low socioeconomic levels, with a growing number of limited English language learners. However, learning a trade completely transcends language barriers and gives kids tools to build careers and it important to give them the tools they need to learn trades.

My Project

Donations to this classroom will help students as they enter the potential career pathway of fashion design. I emphasize to my students that just because we live in a small town does not mean that they cannot dream of careers outside of our town. Just little things like these sets of high quality markers and sketch pads will help them as they reach beyond their norm and begin the process of creating beautiful garments for others. Very few of my students have any experience in fashion design, and I take great pride in helping them to see that they don't have to buy the clothes they see in stores...they can be the creator of the clothes they see in stores. There is no way my students can afford to purchase their own sets of high quality markers and buying sketch pads is impossible in our little town because they just are not available.
