Farmer Baseball

My students need basic baseball and training equipment like hitting tees, instant screens, baseballs, stretch bands, and medicine balls.

My Students

Repetition, accuracy, and discipline: the core of Farmer Baseball are just words without enough balls or training equipment.

Our baseball team proudly sports a roster of 24 varsity athletes, of which 90% are Native Hawaiian.

Our school has approximately 350 students in grades 9-12. We don't have as many resources as other communities where businesses or charity can easily donate items. More than half of our students receive free or reduced-priced meals based on family income. Every sports team at our high school has to fundraise to subsidize travel and purchase equipment and/or uniforms. Because we are the only high school on the island, we have to pay travel expenses to an neighbor island every time we compete. It costs $120 in travel expenses, per player, per competition!

My Project

With our athletic department operating on a shoestring budget, it sometimes leaves each team to purchase the most basic necessities... in our case, these baseballs, hitting tees, medicine balls, and flex nets. Coaches and players bring their personal equipment to practice during the season so they are able to have enough repetition and skill development. If granted this gift, athletes can have the amount of repetition and hot skill training needed to reach the next level of athleticism.

Imagine enough equipment so all 24 athletes can be working at a station.

Imagine enough equipment so highway safety cones don't need to be used as batting tees. Imagine enough baseballs so that players don't have to gather balls after 4 minutes of pitching! Imagine what practice could be like!
