My Project

Purposeful play is something I would love for my first graders to be able to experience in my classroom. While students engage in purposeful play they are exploring answers to there questions and building questioning skills through hands on interaction with materials. My students would use these hands on gardening tools and kits to engage in the growing process.

Nontraditional learning spaces, such as a purposeful play garden area provide excellent opportunities for children to engage in purposeful play that supports their well-being, cognitive and identity development, and promotes positive emotional experiences.

My students will learn why plants are important for our environment as well as what plants need to survive. They will engage in the growing process as well as understanding how we get food in the grocery stores to have at home to eat. They will practice important social skills as they interact with other students in the garden area and grocery check out stand.
