My Students
My students are 9th-12th grade in Food and Nutrition. A good portion of my students are at risk students who do not understand the concept of where food comes from. By having a garden, some of my students will be more engaged to want to eat properly and follow MyPlate nutrition guidelines, instead of eating processed and fried foods as well as consume sugary drinks. This garden project will also show the students that you can eat healthy on a limited budget and not have to spend a whole lot of money.
My Project
Students will learn how food is grown and learn that food just does not appear in a grocery store. A lot of these students are on fixed incomes and are not receiving the proper nutrition needed to be healthy. This project will change that. These students will hopefully take what they learn from the garden project and do the same thing at home to help provide sustainable foods at home. A lot of the students I teach eat too much processed junk food and sugary drinks. They can learn how to create meals and drinks that are better for them. To me, that is the main importance!
