Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hands-on learning is the best way for students to learn and I use this every day in my classroom. I make sure that my students are engaged 100% of the time and are an active learner. This is difficult when we do not have enough of the basic supplies to get through the school year.
I teach in an urban classroom with students whose first language is not English.
All students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. They are amazing and want to be at school as well as the parents wanting them here. My students always come to school ready to learn and put forth 100% no matter what. They really take my saying to heart that I do not care if they get it wrong but I do care if they do not try.
My Project
These resources will help get us through the school year. I found last year that I was scrounging for basic supplies. The families could not afford them. The highlighters, folders and glue will be used during center work. The students had various folders last year that included poetry and stories. We went through a lot of glue. I am asking for an electric pencil sharpener because the sharpener in my room is so bad that it waste the few pencils that I did get last year. As far as the pencils, there was never enough because either our pencil sharpener broke them or the kids needed one to take home to complete homework. I am asking for scissors because even though the school provided me with a class set last year, they all broke and so I am hoping to get a better set that will last as we rearrange words to make sentences. I am asking for privacy boards because we have multiple district tests and setting up books becomes a big distraction and I am hoping this will help.
This will allow me to have the supplies so that my students can complete the work in my classroom - so that we are not looking for a pencil or hoping that the sharpener is not going to break the one that we are sharpening.
I am hoping that this will give my students the tools to be come successful in the tasks that they are completing in my classroom.
