A majority of my classroom students live with parents that are seeing hard times in this new economy. Many of our school's students do not have computers or digital cameras at home.
In our school district, we are fortunate to have technology available to our students. One type of technology that we are lacking are digital cameras that are able to be used by many students on a regular basis. Our digital cameras are older and use AA batteries that run out of battery life before even one student can use it for a day.
In my classroom, each day, we would have several photographers that take pictures of school events, classroom events, and just everyday kids. We would be able to upload the pictures for writing a classroom newsletter, writing a school newspaper, and making a video scrapbook of their first grade year. The new cameras will not only create a motivation for learning about their community, but in writing and producing a final product!
Many young students are not allowed to handle such equipment because teachers/staff/parents think that it is too costly to take the risk. I have seen the responsibility these students take with our old cameras and can only imagine how capable they will be with the new ones that they earned! Please help make it possible for our students to have access to more digital cameras that can become a new outlet for their eduction (reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and art). Thank you so much for your help!!!
