Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home," says Anna Quindlen. My students love to take a journey by reading a book. With the aid of the listening center, I want to get them hooked on reading great books so they can achieve success!
My students are a bright group of six and seven year olds that are underprivileged and have limited access to books and technology.
These boys and girls are eager to learn and come to school with smiles on their faces! They are full of life and find great joy in making new discoveries. Each one is unlocking the door to reading. With a wonderful collection of books available, students are motivated to explore their world and read their way to understanding.
Our school strives to promote the Leader in Me concepts which encourages students being proactive in their learning. We teach students to begin with the end in mind, so choosing to be a strong reader by practicing each day is a great place to start! The joy they experience reading good literature can be felt in the classroom. These students deserve to have every opportunity to be the best that they can be! Readers today will be leaders tomorrow. It is my goal to provide them with awesome books and a delightful place to enjoy them!
My Project
I have requested easy to read books and CDs to guide students as they begin to unlock the doors to reading. To build fluency, my students need daily practice reading and listening to great stories. By submersing them in language, they will have more opportunities to see, hear, and learn the written word. Students will also have additional reading practice with the exploration of a big book which introduces language through a choral reading utilizing large print.
In class, we will reread this text many times so children will increase their fluency and confidence. The three little pig puppet set encourages my students to retell the story they have heard using their own language. This activity is engaging and strengthens students' comprehension of the material they have already read. Practice is the key to becoming a great reader. With the aid of easy readers and supporting CDs, big books, and colorful puppets, my students will have the tools they need to build fluency and literacy.
Thank you for your kind support of my fantastic first grade students!
Through your kindness, my students will practice their basic reading skills with eagerness. The bright, colorful pages of the easy readers and corresponding CDs promotes their interest in reading. A big book and delightful puppets fosters their enthusiasm for reading further. These tools magnify the skills that I strive to teach in my class. By engaging my students with these materials, their literacy will improve each day.
