Fantasies and Funnies: Improving Our Classroom Library

My Students

As a middle school English Language Arts teacher in Montana, I truly enjoy learning about each of my students. Each student brings unique experiences and attributes to the classroom, which makes every day unique. With a variety of backgrounds and interests, it is essential to have a diverse classroom library.

My eager, curious students cultivate an exciting, engaging classroom environment.

They read, create, collaborate, and share as they challenge themselves to learn and grow. Because of them, I continuously strive to build relationships, improve my instruction, and gather the necessary materials to best meet their learning needs and interests.

My Project

After four weeks with my reading class for the 2019-2020 school year, I am discovering many students can't wait to read fantasy books by Rick Riordan. Unfortunately, I do not have many of his books, and they are so popular that there aren't enough copies in the school library. Along with fantasy, I have many students interested in reading a comical book series by Jeff Kinney. The few copies of the series that I've had have disappeared throughout the years; therefore, I look forward to adding new copies to my classroom library for students to enjoy.

Please help me provide my students with the books they are interested in reading.

With these new books, I can reach more readers and ignite a passion for reading. Students receive 10 minutes of silent reading time each day at the beginning of class as well as set independent reading goals. While students read, I confer individually with readers and help them work on essential reading skills.
