Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a first grade bilingual class in a low income/high poverty area. My students come from many different Spanish speaking countries and are faced with daily difficulties as they and their families try to search for the American Dream. My school provides some supplies to take away any unnecessary stress but is not enough.
Our first graders are on a journey to learn the English language.
Once they adquire a solid foundation in reading and writing in their native language, transition to English is almost instantly. They love to learn new vocabulary words and topics that are relevant to them. They are unique and certainly full of energy. Always eager to learn and share despite their challenges.
My Project
My students need privacy partitions to work independently while I test, teach small groups, or when they work at the Chromebook center. These partitions will allow for minimal distractions throughout the day. Right now is very difficult to manage a large class of 28 curious six and seven year old students during center activities and tests.
The new common core demands rigorous tasks from our students that requires serious concentration even for a first grader.
The majority of the students have not mastered how to ignore classroom noise and distractions, for that reason the partitions will assist them to focus on the task at hand. Also, the partition holder will help us keep the supplies in shape and organized. Help us find the concentration we need by facilitating these privacy shields.
