Family Paint Night with Cookies & Canvas

My students need art easels, acrylic paint and brushes to create masterpieces with their parents.

My Students

My school includes both general education and special education students from Pre-K to 6th grade. They receive art instruction during the school day in our parent participation art lab. The students love art. It is a time for expressing oneself, creating something new, and having fun. Art is something that everyone can do and it provides opportunities for acquiring important life skills.

I teach at a Title I school with all students qualifying for free lunches. Their parents have a strong desire for arts education in our school and many volunteer in the art lab to teach art history and facilitate student production of pieces of art. Involving parents has made art instruction so much more engaging and fun!

My Project

This project welcomes students and their families to create an original piece of art at our "Cookies and Canvas" family paint night. Art easels, canvases, paint and brushes will be used to create take-home masterpieces. The materials provide necessary supplies to students and their parents during this engaging evening activity and future canvas art projects in the lab.

"Cookies and Canvas" provides families with the opportunity to come into the art lab, engage in studio art together, and consider volunteering in our parent led school-day art program.

Conducting the paint night in the art lab allows parents to get a picture of what their students are creating during art lessons while having the opportunity to have fun painting together. Students benefit by getting to share their art and more parents into the art lab ensures the longevity of this wonderful and much needed program.
