My Students

Next year, I will be a Reading Specialist at a Title I School in Virginia. I will work with many students who are struggling in the area of reading. The students I will be serving will be range from Preschool to 2nd grade.

My students will need lots of extra support and new, exciting reading tools to help make reading engaging and meaningful for them.

My Project

My students attend a Title 1 Primary School. Many parents truly want to help their students learn to read, but may not know the best way to help. As a Reading Specialist, part of my job is helping families help their children read at home.

Another big part of my job is getting students and families EXCITED about reading!

With a Family Literacy Night, myself and other teachers will plan fun, engaging family literacy activities that they can then play at home with their families to boost reading skills. We will share great books, reading resources, and tips to ensure our students are reading at home, as well! In order to draw in families and make them excited about coming, I'd love to offer some door prizes as rewards for attending. The gift cards in the project to Subway, Krispy Kreme, Coldstone, Amazon, IHOP, and Panera are sure to attract many families to Family Literacy Night! Amazon gift cards can be used to purchase a favorite book and the rest can be used by students as a reward for meeting personal reading goals. Families can gather at one of the restaurants and discuss their favorite books while celebrating reaching reading milestones.
