Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm an educator in a Title I school in the Bronx. Our school is comprised of many students who are first and second generation immigrants as well as students with disabilities. While we have students that come from very hard-working and decent families, we also educate a population of students that come from homes stricken by poverty and dysfunction. I educate students who are bilingual with disabilities whose disabilities are often compounded by their living situations. In the classroom, they are curious, motivated to learn, and hard workers despite the hardships that they face. Right now, my students are struggling to find the balance between their school work day, the very real demands of their lives right now, and engaging in meaningful enriching activities during their down time.
Help me deliver meaningful and worthwhile activities that they can engage in with their families during these difficult times!
It would be amazing if my students and their families could connect and learn during their time at home.
My Project
Our students are English Language Learners and many of their parents are essential workers or currently out of work due to the pandemic. Our families are struggling to engage meaningfully in their children's learning at this time due to the tremendous stress that they are experiencing. Our hope is to provide our families with games that they can play with their children while still allowing our students to learn.
Please help us get meaningful activities to our students and their families, so that they can still engage in the critical thinking skills that they often had to use while physically at school.
We would love for our students to still develop their English language development through Zingo, math and mental development through Math War, Suspend, and Hidden Pictures. These activities will allow our families to connect with their children during these difficult times and still allow our students to keep learning from home.
