This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teacher PK-4 (pre-kinder for 4 year olds). I have a class of 24 students, who come from low-income background. Our school is made up of around 90% Hispanic population so most students are bilingual. My kids are super heroes everyday because for many of them it is their first time away from mom and are being brave little boys and girls coming to school with great enthusiasm, ready to learn. Aside from all the obstacles these kids are coming into the classroom with, we are a high performing school.

My Project

Family is one of the units covered in our curriculum and having a doll house with play people would greatly help in role-playing the roles of each family member in a home.

Family is in the heart of Pre-K.

To a 4-year old their family is their whole world. For the majority it is the first time they are away from their parents and so a whole unit is dedicated to family and their roles at home, school, and the work place.

Right now we've been using dollar store dolls and furniture but everything keeps falling apart. We need quality toys that will last more than a couple of minutes...things that they can relate to and use to play and further understand the role they and all of the members of their household play.
