My Students

I am a teacher in a high poverty-low income community. Students encounter not only the typical daily challenges youngsters face, but added challenges of having limited resources readily available. The students are bright and eager, full of life and willingness to learn. They've inspired me to bring a richer, more engaging approach to the classroom.

My students are unique, talented, and ambitious.

They more than deserve an environment geared towards their learning. They take pride in what is given to them, and are appreciative to have those of you out there who contribute to their life long journey of learning.

My Project

I am asking for Christmas decorations, crafting materials, games and a camera to create a holiday event for parents to come and enjoy after school with their child once a week until Christmas. Students and parents will be able to make ornaments, snow globes, mini Christmas trees, and play games, coming together in fellowship. These activities are meant to not only connect child to parent, but to connect families within the classroom with each other. Creating and expanding a support system for both the child's and caregiver's needs.

It is backed by research that when families are connected and engaged in their child's school, students performance in school becomes more meaningful and rich.We often forget how important just having fun is, while being inundated with standards and testing.

Our families are often consumed with work. These family engagement nights will give parents a chance to relax, enjoy their child. Students will have a chance to play, craft, and play games- all while learning and strengthening social/emotional life skills.
