My students need game pieces, dice, spinners, paper, ink, and storage pouches to create game sets to practice math and literacy skills with their families during family game nights.
My students arrive to our school excited and eager to learn. They are curious about their world and love learning through fun, hands-on activities. Our school is diverse, with many speaking more than one language, and parents have varying educational backgrounds. Language and educational differences should not deter them from learning together, so I am working on ways to help all of my families be actively involved in my students' school experiences.
Educating a child is a partnership between parents, teachers, and schools.
As a teacher, it is my passion to do whatever I can to give all of my students the opportunity to learn. By involving their families in their education, my students will have a greater chance at exceeding their academic goals. Through this project, students will work alongside their families to build their math and reading skills. In addition, they will work on their social skills by playing games with their family.
My Project
I have a lot of resources to create math and literacy games, but need game pieces, dice, spinners, paper, ink, and storage pouches for my students to extend their learning at home. Games are a fun way for students to practice their skills and share their learning with their families. While playing games, students will share their learning with their families, practice social skills, and reinforce skills worked on at school in a much more exciting manner than homework! Homework in my class will be fun and strengthen the home - school connection.
Games facilitate learning; they allow learners to continuously try to reach a goal all while practicing skills without feeling overwhelmed or threatened.
First graders are eager to play, and without realizing it, they grow as learners and thinkers! Playing games activates the persistence required for effective learning.
Having a set of games for students to play at home will allow them more time to practice, give them a chance to teach their family, and provide them a chance to have fun with their education!
