Help me give my students and the entire Fourth and Fifth grade and their families the tools to have a family game night that also increases academic skills.
We are a group of unique individuals who love to learn in ways that apply classroom concepts to real life situations. We also have an incredible community of parents who love to help and support their students at home
We are a community of diverse learners.
Many of our scholars score at or above standard, but we also we have 12-15% who are not performing at standard. Some scholars are second language learners and others have difficulty learning through traditional methods. These are scholars who have been identified with learning disabilities, which also includes students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD. Sometimes traditional methods don't address the way they learn.
In our school we love to learn and we acquire knowledge and skills best through learning together, sharing ideas and applying our skills to real world situations. I love that our school is made of unique individuals who bring varying ideas and enjoy working together. They solve problems by sorting out and building on each other’s ideas. Most importantly these scholars bring a love of learning to school everyday!
My Project
We are requesting games which will allow us to host a "Family Game Night" for our 4th and 5th graders and the members of their home team. Each family will enjoy the opportunity to experience learning games with their child that are readily available and fun! At the end of the night the games will be raffled off and each family will go home with a bag of cards and dice, along with a booklet created by the teachers with a variety of games they can play with these materials.
Through playing the games at home the students and their families will have fun playing together while reinforcing and building on the skills learned in class.
This will deepen the students understanding of standards through replicable math fluency and language arts games that have been modeled at the Family Game Night.
