Family Fun Bag

Help me give my students bags of book and follow up activity materials to send home so that they can practice their literacy skills, enjoy reading and quality activities with their family!

My Students

My first grade students love to learn! Every morning they walk into our classroom with a big smile. They love to read, to be read, play math games, work on coding and write stories. They are curious and inquisitive children, and they challenge me everyday to grow with them and be the best I can be.

We work hard to create a classroom community where students can take a risk to explore, wonder and discover the world around them.

We ask questions, share our ideas, expand our learning environment using technology, and publish our work to share with the world. They work and collaborate with one another to learn.

Our school also focuses on character building. Children's kindness and compassion are recognized and celebrated. We are proud to be a part of an amazing school. We are family. We learn, play, laugh and grow together!

My Project

I want to create take home Family Fun Bags that contain a book and materials for a follow up activity. The bag will also contain a teacher written direction sheet, which the students practice reading at school. Once the students master reading the direction sheet, they are ready to take on the responsibility of reading the directions at home and LEAD the activity! The students will also record their experiences in a journal.

These fun-filled bags will not only be a perfect way to practice literacy skills at home but also give my students authentic purpose for practicing reading.

I have chosen engaging fiction and nonfiction books for this project. The follow up activities include cooking, various STEM challenges, arts and crafts. The students will take turns to take each bag home throughout the year. I can already see the excitement of my students when it's their turn to take a bag home. They can demonstrate their reading skills to their family. I believe that when the families receive a bag with all the materials needed, it increases family participation.

I would also like to provide a digital platform such as Padlet for the families to post pictures of their projects.
