My Project
The specific items I am requesting for my students are items they come to me in need of and/or would love to have to promote concentration and mindfulness. Our low-income families do not always have the basic items and when they come into school and get those needs met, it makes a world of difference.
Family Engagement's goal is to be a layer of support for our students and families.
Helping the whole student and family with items needed (hygiene, food, clothing), resources we can provide, help with community resources, and the importance of attendance. We want our students to feel welcomed into our schools and we want our families to know that the school is there for them as well.
Some of the clothing items requested and laundry products (bras, sweatpants) are a representation of what students come in asking for when those basic needs cannot be met elsewhere. Students are dealing with mental health and fun fidget toys (fidget spinners, pop-its) can help them concentrate. Games (Uno, tic-tac-toe) and coloring books (scratch pads) help keep students' minds calm so they are comfortable and speak freely about barriers they are experiencing.
