Family Activity Bags

My project needs educational materials to fill five themed activity bags that will promote family fun.

As a teacher and parent, I feel strongly about having quality family time at home. I want to provide my students and their families with fun and educational activities that they can work on together in the evenings. I am a second grade teacher at a school that is Equity Plus and Title I. Our families are predominately low income and need help providing their children with extras. With your help, I want to create activity bags that my students can take home to work on with their families. I will create five bags. Each bag will go home with one child for the week until each kid in my class has taken all five bags home. The students will return the bags each Friday. They will share with the class what they did with their families using the bags. These bags will contain the materials needed to play games, create projects, read and have lots of family fun. Below are the themed bags, what they will contain and how families can use them: The Art Bag - This bag will be used to initiate family art projects and creativity. This bag will contain crayons, watercolors, markers, craft items, paper bags, assorted paper, glue and more. The Literacy Bag - This bag will be used to promote families reading together. This bag will contain children's literature in the form of picture books, chapter books, poetry, magazines and joke books. There will be bookmarks and blank books that families can write in to create their own stories. The Math Bag - This bag will be used to foster learning math concepts. This bag will include math games, flashcards, math manipulatives, playing cards and activity sheets. The Special Guest Bag - This bag will be used to encourage journal writing. This bag will contain a stuffed animal, books about that animal, a journal, pencils and pens, and an idea sheet for "What To Do With Your Special Guest." The Game Night Bag - This bag will be used to encourage families to play together. This bag will contain mini versions of classic games, playing cards, dominoes, puzzles and more. These five family activity bags will promote family interaction. Our school needs parental support. Our children need to have quality time with their families. Our families need to know the importance of family activities. I know that through these family activity bags we will help foster families spending quality time together.
