My students will be learning about the rise and fall of Empires in both Ancient and Modern History. My wish and challenge for them this year is to teach them how to make connections with the past, to recognize continuities throughout history, make comparisons between civilizations.
My students are very diverse, both ethnically and economically.
We are the premier arts and academic high school in a large city. Students have to audition to gain entrance, as well as prove themselves academically. Students are always excited to be able to work with technology. The computer lab is shared by over 2,000 students, so it is not always possible to take the class there.
My Project
Students will be working on pair work/projects together throughout the year. One specific idea I have is for students to research and "represent" a nation from 1750-1919, creating presentations of their nation's position on global events unfolding during this period and debating the role these events played in shaping the modern world/current events.
Students can also work together on webquests. Using the iPads to access Google classroom will allow me to post assignments which students can then work on together in class.
The iPads will be an additional tool that students can use in the classroom.
We will only be limited by our imagination as we continue our studies of other cultures. As stated above, my students vary economically so for some this will be an additional exposure to technology.
