My Project

As we are all aware, the love for reading has been diminishing through out the years, specially amongst our young generations. For this reason, it is imperative for us, Reading teachers, to create/assign a space in our rooms that promote literacy.

With the items provided in this list, I plan on creating a comfy, inviting, and cozy space in my classroom that encourages my students to explore the possibilities a book can give them.

As you might be aware, space is limited within the classroom. For this reason, I chose to have a rotative book shelf with different tiers and shelves that allow books to be categorized either by genre, language, topic, etc. without taking much space from the room. This will allow me to have more space for flexible seating using cushions or comfy chairs for my students to read comfortably.

I work with Bilingual/ESL students, so I truly believe that providing them with books that are at their reading level will increase their willingness and motivation to read. I selected "beginner readers" books in both English and Spanish, since I have noticed that not having books for my beginner readers have negatively impacted my students interest or motivation to read. I also thought about students that have on level reading skills, this is why I also chose a variety of different genre books that I have noticed my students feel attracted to read or learn more about.
