This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the privilege of teaching ELA and Social Studies to two classes, one 7th grade and the other 8th. My two classes are made up of African-American and Hispanic students from primarily low-income households. Although most of my students face ongoing hardships outside the school walls, as a staff we strive to keep them safe and engaged.
My students are strong, intelligent and inquisitive young adults on the verge of closing out their grade school career.
My goal is to provide them with a highly engaging and motivating experience to propel them to success this school year and beyond!
My Project
Everyone needs a good book! Reading is essential to fostering the imagination and the interest of students. My students will benefit from reading great books in many ways. My students love to read and love to learn about new things. New books would help my students continue their love for reading and writing.
My students would be able to choose a book at their level, and spend their reading time with a new book.
We would also use the books to for literature circles and book studies. The books will also allow students to recommend other books to their peers or anyone outside of the classroom.
