My Project
One of my goals as a teacher is to make sure kids have positive reading experiences. When kids get to choose the books and time to read from those books, it can make all the difference. Each day, we safeguard time for independent reading. I think it is one of the most important parts of our school day.
If students don't love what they are reading, they will never learn to love to read.
Independent reading is the time when you get to find the books you love. There is a clear connection between motivation to read and performance. We have to give kids the time and space and access to develop that. To make sure kids have books they love, a teacher needs a lot of books!
The books in this grant have been hand selected to fit the interests and levels of my diverse group of students, but most importantly, they are books that will encourage kids to fall in love with reading!
