Fall 2022 Community Service Events: Mechanical Mustangs Robotics Team
Help me give my students Halloween candy, Halloween LEGO sets, Halloween glow rings and bouncy balls, gaffer's tape, horse trophies, clear tote bags, and wristbands for our fall Robotics outreach events.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The FIRST Robotics Team, FRC 3314, The Mechanical Mustangs, participates in many community service outreach events before our build season begins in January. This fall we are lined up to do: space-themed STEM nights, the Halloween Extravaganza, the Mustang Robot Rodeo, and a FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournament.
We need many different types of supplies for these events, including candy, wristbands, Halloween giveaways, horse trophies, clear tote bags, and snacks; each of these events is used to promote STEM and engage with the youngest generation of scientists and engineers.
We bring our 5 ft, 130 lb robots to each event and allow the students to drive them. During the Halloween event, we will be putting costumes on two of the taller robots and driving them around the school, interacting with the students. During the tournaments, we will be hosting hundreds of middle and high school students from around the tri-state area and giving them the chance to compete with either their FRC robot or their FLL robots.
Being on the robotics team gives students the opportunity to work out real-world problems, strategize, design, fabricate, and program solutions, and then compete in an exciting sport. Doing community service and outreach is a vital part of our program. These students are given this amazing opportunity and in order for them to qualify to travel with us, they need to do a minimum of 25 hours of community service this fall.
