My school is located in an urban area of Los Angeles. We are a diverse student body that speaks various languages and comes from a wide variety of cultures; truly our school is a melting pot centered on academic and social development!
My students, this year, are twenty fifth-graders that come from all corners of the globe.
We are literally the United Nations within one classroom.
My students have varied interests and strengths from writing, acting, gaming, technology, design, and sports. They are intrinsically motivated to succeed and work hard to meet academic and social expectations they made for themselves. They are kind individuals, respectful of various viewpoints, and are willing to learn from mistakes and the examples of others!
My Project
This project is requesting a class subscription to Time for Kids, including print and electronic editions. Children truly need to learn how to analyze messages presented online, in print, and on the television to learn how to make informed decisions as they mature and become our future problem solvers.
My job is to not only teach my students how to analyze information and make sure they have the materials to succeed, but to make sure that the children I teach turn into critical thinkers that are capable of making informed decisions.
Time for Kids is the perfect student-friendly magazine subscription that will enable me to teach media literacy with my students. Thank you for taking the time to review this project.
