This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The purpose of this project is to have students experiences the process of a trial while using critical thinking and perspective analysis. Students gain an understanding of our laws and government as well as analysis the consequences and effects of behavior.
Participating in a mock trial provides an authentic learning experience with real world applications.
Students will use fairytales to experience the process of the trial. Students actively prepare all the components of the trial. They will develop skills such as reading, critical thinking, perspective and analytical writing, dramatics, public speaking and teamwork through the process of creating and presenting the mock trial.
I teach a gifted education pullout program at two Title I rural public schools. Students' families are generally unable to provide items such as costume elements and microphones, needed to make the trial a little more special. I know my students would be so excited and grateful to have these extra items to help make their experience more authentic. Gifted students thrive on critical thinking and project based authentic learning experiences. The immersive nature of this project will be something they will always remember. Perhaps maybe even develop a love of the law from it. Thank you for considering our classroom's mock trial experience for your donation.
