My Students
The students in my class this year are coming in person to school and have adjusted to all the changes without question or complaints. We are a Title 1 school in a low income community. These students understand the need for social distancing and masks and despite the fact that they miss group work, they do their best to continue to learn and enjoy school. They love to read, write, do math and also have a love for the arts whether it be drama, singing, dance or art. They love to be creative and are learning social emotional skills during class to aid them in their lives, lessons we hope that they will remember as they continue in their education.
My Project
These materials include the originals, fractured fairy tale versions, and multicultural versions of the beloved classics: Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Little Red Riding Hood. With these resources, students will be able to read at least 2 different books on their own.
My plan is to use the originals as mentor texts to model different reading skills such as finding the central message or identifying character traits.
This in turn will tie into writing instruction on how to write their own fractured fairytale following a story map.
Fairy tales transport students into a magical world where their imagination arises and can be celebrated. There are several benefits to having a fairytale unit including literacy development and cultural literacy to name a few. The students will be enjoying learning through these tales and be able to become writers of their own fractured fairy tales.
