About My Students

The amazing students submitting this project are Jade, Micaela and Angel. These soon to be high schoolers are smart, funny, creative, and artistic, and they value helpfulness and love. These girls have a lot of girl power, and they are putting it to great use! They are thoughtful and caring individuals who wants to make a difference in our classroom and our school.

Jade, Micaela and Angel are a community builders! They LOVE reading. In this project, they really show how much they care about their classmates and their school. As part of their Language Arts class, they decided to write a grant for basic supplies because they want to ensure that all of their classmates have the materials they need to be successful. They asked me about upcoming units, and I told them about our Q4 media literacy unit in which they analyze websites for validity and deconstruct advertisements and create their own. These students asked what materials all students will need in order to annotate articles, complete critical media graphic organizers, create ads, and design bumper stickers. I helped them create the list of needed supplies, and they wrote this project. Their kindness shines in this grant!

My students are studying how art reflects values. They are using their Language Arts skills to write grants that reflect their own personal values. These students value creativity and helpfulness, and they hope to use their persuasive writing to convince you to support their grant that provides resources for our class to analyze sources to determine if they are legimate. These students want to support their English class by providing supplies for projects that involve media literacy, claim/evidence/reasoning, and writing. This group is really thinking beyond themselves. What's more, in preparing this project these students are using 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Thank you for taking the time to read these students' grant. If you value education, helpfulness, and creativity, this is the project for you!

In Their Own Words

We really want to get supplies so that all the students have what they need to be successful in Language Arts. We are going to study media literacy and look at how to know if a source is reliable or not, and we will create advertisements and bumper stickers. Sometimes some kids come to class without the supplies they need, and our teacher always tries to give them what she has. Sometimes she runs out...especially of pencils! This project will make sure that kids have all the supplies so we can all learn.

As part of our argumentative writing task, we could write a grant about anything we wanted. We decided to help Ms. L. We will be leaders on this project by making sure the supply boxes are full, and trying to motivate people to not waste the supplies. We will also make sure to write a thank you letter to people who support our project, and we will take pictures so you can see our class using the supplies.

It is important to know if something is Fake News so that we can know whether we should be concerned about it or not. We need to know what is really happening around the world, so we can know what to do if something really is true. We want to help our friends because some of them really don't have the money for supplies, and this project helps them have what they need to learn and succeed.
