Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an inner city Title I school, kindergarten through grade six. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Regular education students, special education students, and English language learners are integrated in most classrooms in every grade.
Our students and their families are reflective of many diverse cultures. We all work collaboratively in order to make each every person who walks through our doorway feel special and important. Our families come to our school throughout the year when dropping off and picking up their children, attending Open House, Parent-Teacher conferences, volunteer sessions, and social events.
My Project
Knowing addition and subtraction math facts readily and early on in second grade help all students with more difficult math concepts throughout the year, such as place value, counting coins, telling time, and place value. In second grade, a major goal is to have all students know their math facts abstractly and quickly. Addition and subtraction fact fluency is the precursor to the students' math ability to multiply and divide in subsequent grades.
These math workbooks and hands-on materials will be used in math learning stations in order for my students to increase their fluency and expedience with their addition and subtraction facts.
