Help me give my students access to flexible seating in the classroom. The FlexiSpot standing desk and Amazon Anti Fatigue Mat will enable students to stay focused and learn.
We are a Title 1 School in the Panhandle of Florida. The student population that is served is primarily Military and students who come from low socioeconomic families. Fifty-five percent of these students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. Many of our students are being raised by grandparents or single parent families, while some are living in homelessness.
Being a K-8 school has its challenges because more often than not both elementary and middle school students must share the same facilities (gymnasium, library, cafeteria and technology lab) technology and resources.
With nearly 900 students in the building, sharing resources typically means that every student doesn't always have what they need when they need it.
We work tirelessly to provide a safe, loving environment for all of our students. Despite the obstacles they face, they are positive, encouraged and resilient.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Every year I have students who are unable to sit for extended periods of time. They fidget, change position and drop things. By the end of the class period these students are normally standing by their desks or in the back of the classroom so as not to disrupt the learning of others.
Making sure all students are comfortable is essential to motivating them.
When students are given a choice in their seating, I have noticed that my students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them one more additional seating option in the classroom to make more effective learning choices. The adjustable standing desk and anti fatigue pad will enable students who are "standers" to comfortably complete their classwork without constantly feeling the need to squirm in their seat. The adjustable standing desk is also lightweight and can be easily moved to many areas of the classroom.
During my many years of teaching, I have seen how choice can positively affect a students work and demeanor in the classroom and hope that these additional resources will enable all students to find a flexible seating option that works for them!
