My Project

Have you ever tried to read Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein? It’s truly a wonderful story…well, I didn’t know that until I read Gris Grimly’s graphic version of it. I am an 8th grade teacher, and one of the books suggested for our curriculum is Gris Grimly’s Frankenstein. I read it for the first time with my students, and not only did I love it, so did they. This graphic novel gave my students (and me) access to a story that otherwise they would never read. We had rich and thoughtful discussions about this story, and I was able to assign them high level assignments that allowed them to use critical thinking skills.

I have read this story for the past three years, but the only way everyone has access to it is online.

That may sound fine, but I am a firm believer that students need to spend less time online and more time reading real books. I would love to be able to read this book with my students using real, tangible books. My goal each year is to foster the love of reading books, real books. A class set of Gris Grimly’s Frankenstein would help me do just that while also allowing me to follow our curriculum and hit the required learning targets when reading it.

This class set would be used each year allowing 8th graders to enjoy over and over again. Thank you for your consideration.
