Fabulous First Graders Need Flexible Seating Options!
My students need 4 Flex Space comfy chairs, 4 wobble cushions, and 2 giant pillows to provide flexible, durable classroom seating for all learners to be comfortable while working around the room!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a school where many of my students come from families that are economically disadvantaged. Our school is considered high-poverty, and approximately 70% of our students receive free lunch.
I teach 18 students who come from so many different backgrounds, but who all have one thing in common: a desire to learn and play!
The students that come to me every day are silly, smart, and curious about the world around them! They take pride in everything they do, and there is nothing quite like experiencing the world through their eyes.
My Project
I am requesting 10 flexible seating options for my classroom, so that my students will have different choices for working around the classroom. Some students work best at a table, while others prefer to sit around the room. Often times, they sit on the floor and/or lay on the carpet, but they don't always look comfortable, and as a result, will often roll around.
My hope is that this new flexible seating will have my students working calmly around the classroom, getting their wiggles out with the new wobble cushions, and getting nice and cozy with the padded seating and cushions they will receive.
My students are an eager, active group of children who love learning. The seating in the classroom will keep them in their independent reading and writing spots, something that is sometimes a challenge for my 6 year old class. When given the choice between reading at their seats or reading on a comfy cushion around the classroom, I know my students will choose the option that will make them feel like they have the comforts of home!
