Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids love to read, but it gets frustrating for them when the books they want to read are too difficult. They need books that are "just right" for their reading level.
My fourth graders live in a working class and immigrant neighborhood.
Most of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.
My Project
These nonfiction books are written at different levels of difficulty so that every student will be able to enjoy a variety of stories about science and history. These books include stories about dolphins, dinosaurs, astronauts, volcanoes, and carnivorous plants. Among the biographies are stories about Christopher Columbus, Anne Frank, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. My students are also doing research projects about animals, and the animal photo library will give them a head start. We are asking for a set of Eyewitness nonfiction books, an animal photo library, plus a sample reader's journal so students can learn how to keep track of what they've read.
Thanks to your generous donation, my students will have access to interesting nonfiction books that are written just for their reading level.
With a variety of stories to choose from, they will become experts on a countless number of topics. My students and I thank you!
