My Project

Our theme for next school year is Ola i Ka Wai, which translates to "water is life." This theme perfectly reflects the importance of water in our community. Students at WES will embark on a year-long exploration of water, learning about its origins, its role in sustaining our island's resources, and the challenges our Maui waters face. They will gain a deep understanding of their kuleana (responsibility) to protect this vital resource for future generations.

But how can we ensure our stream is healthy and fulfills its life-giving purpose?

This water monitoring kit empowers our students to become active participants in the solution. By collecting and analyzing data on the stream's quality, they'll gain valuable firsthand experience in environmental science. Weekly monitoring will allow them to create informative graphs, effectively communicating the health of the stream to our school community. This project offers an awe-inspiring opportunity for our students. "Wai" is not just any word; it's woven into the very fabric of our location and heritage. By taking charge of our stream's health, our students are making a real difference for themselves, their ancestors, and generations to come.
