My students need a class set of Scholastic Art Magazines, so they can read and view the images at their own pace before we engage in full class discussions.
I see my 4th and 5th grade students once a week for only 1 hour. With the limited amount of time and limited resources, it is hard to introduce new artists to them. This year, each month, I plan to introduce artists to them by using the Scholastic Art Magazine. Students at all reading levels will have the opportunity to read at their own pace and really view the images up close, preparing them to be an active participate in the whole class discussion at the end of the month.
Funding this project will help put this art text in the hands of all my 4th and 5th grade students both schools I teach at here in Central Illinois.
My Project
This year, each month, I plan to introduce a new artists to them using the Scholastic Art Magazine. Students will explore how each artist uses their art materials as ingredients to create. After reading the small article and viewing the images we will discuss and then create our own masterpieces!
Scholastic Arts Magazine will encourage my students to read about current events in the art world, as well as introduce them to the masters of the past, and even Careers in art!
Each month a class set of Scholastic Arts Magazines will travel with me from one elementary to another elementary school, enriching the art learning of so many students!
