Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students have never worked on videos.
These kids are filled with joy and the will to create things.
They live in a high crime neighborhood and are exposed to a lot of it. They are about 70% Hispanic and about 25% African Americans between the ages of 4 and 12. These students attend a charter school which welcomes families from anywhere in the city. They have witnessed great things being made, yet have not had much opportunities to create themselves. They are ready to work every day, they just need more tools and more guidance, more leaders.
My Project
These students will get hands on opportunities to work with this equipment. They will document school events such as holiday parties, birthday parties, assemblies, as well as everyday activities during school. They will get basic hands on practice and the opportunity to get familiar with the camera. plan on teaching small groups of kids basics of photography.
Teaching them about shutter speeds, iso, and panning. As they improve we will edit photos on Photosho, print, and frame them on our hallways or to take home.
In addition to photography I also plan on having kids write scripts, direct them and help making short films with the students using the camera and Imovie.
This project will help give the kids experience and build confidence in themselves.
It will help plant the seed for their future. This project will help build careers and bright futures.
